The decade-long Israeli aggression on the Palestinians has always afflicted the hearts and minds of the Muslim Ummah and empathetic people around the world. And with every latest oppression, the pain is multiplied. There is a bomb dropping every minute, and a latest casualty every moment, even as we talk, right now. This calls for our unconditional support in any way possible, be it spiritually or financially.
Alhamdulillah, the domain is vast and it spreads across learning and spreading awareness too. But, to raise awareness we must be aware ourselves. We are hearing new and unique words every day which we have not heard before. So let’s educate ourselves:
Common Terms Associated With Palestine And Their Meaning (In Hindi Too):
1. Apartheid:
Establishing a government based on discrimination of colour of skin, race and religion is known as apartheid. Israel is an Apartheid state. (Example – It was practised in South Africa between 1948-1994 by the white minority government over the native black population.)
त्वचा के रंग, नस्ल और धर्म के भेदभाव पर आधारित सरकार की स्थापना को अपार्थिड कहा जाता है। इज़राइल एक अपार्थिड राज्य है। (साउथ अफ्रीका में ऐसा त्वचा के रंग के आधार पर किया गया था)
2. Occupation:
Refers to the control and administration of one nation over the territory of another, often used to describe Zionists’ control of the whole of Palestine including the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
कब्ज़ा करना – यानि एक देश का दूसरे देश पर कब्ज़ा करके राज करना या सरकार चलाना। ज़ायोनिस्त विचारधारा के लोगों ने फिलिसतीन पर कब्ज़ा किया हुआ है और वहाँ ज़ुल्म ओ सितम करते हैं।
3. Settlements:
Zionist communities built in the West Bank and East Jerusalem further infiltrate the remaining Palestinian regions. Settlers living in these colonies often attack Palestinians and occupy their houses.
ज़ायोनिस्त समुदायों ने वेस्ट बैंक और पूर्वी येरुशलम में अवैध घुसपैठ कर अपने ठिकाने बना लिए हैं, जिससे बच हुआ फिलिसतीँ और छोटा होता जा रहा है। इन कॉलोनियों में रहने वाले ज़ायोनिस्त अक्सर फ़िलिस्तीनियों पर हमला करते हैं और उनके घरों पर कब्ज़ा कर लेते हैं।
4. Blockade:
An oppressive policy of restricting the movement of goods and people in and out of the Gaza Strip. People in Gaza cannot move out without the permission of the Israel Defense Forces.
बलॉकैड का मतलब नाकाबंदी या घेराबंदी होता है। गाज़ा के लोगों को बिना इजाज़त गाज़ा से बाहर निकलने पर रोक है। इसराली सरकार के पर्मिशन ना मिलने तक गाज़ा में जरूरत का सामान नहीं आ सकता, जैसा की अभी हो रहा है। क्योंकि बॉर्डर पर इस्राइल आर्मी का पहरा होता है।
5. Open-air Prison:
A term used to describe the situation in the Gaza Strip, where residents face severe restrictions on their movement, access to resources, and economic opportunities. The borders are heavily monitored by Israel forces.
ओपन एयर प्रिज़न – गाज़ा के हालात एक खुले आसमान की जेल की तरह है। गाज़ा के लोगों को बिना इजाज़त गाज़ा से बाहर निकलने पर रोक है। इसराली सरकार के पर्मिशन ना मिलने तक गाज़ा में जरूरत का सामान नहीं आ सकता, क्योंकि बॉर्डर पर इस्राइल आर्मी का पहरा होता है।
6. Refugee Camps:
Housing areas or tents where Palestinian refugees and their descendants have lived for generations as a result of Zionist occupation of Palestine.
रिफ़्यूजी कैंप का मतलब ऐसे रहाइशी इलाके हैं जहां फिलीस्तीनी लोग कई सालों से रहने के लिए मजबूर हैं क्योंकि उनकी ज़मीनों और घरों पर यहूदी-ज़ायोनिस्त ने कब्ज़ा कर लिया है।
7. Separation Barrier/Wall:
A physical barrier, including fences and walls, was constructed by Israel in and around the West Bank and Gaza to restrict and control Palestinian freedom of movement.
दीवार और नोकीले तार से बनाए गए बॉर्डर जिनका मकसद फिलिस्तीनी आबादी की हलचल और आव-जाही पर रोक लगाना है और जरूरी सामान वेस्ट बैंक और गाज़ा में आने से रोकना है।
8. Miltary Checkpoints:
Military or security installations where people and vehicles are subjected to heavy inspection. These tactics are used to control, delay and restrict Palestinian movement in Occupied Palestine.
चेक्पॉइन्ट – ये बॉर्डर पर लगाई गई मिलिटरी पोस्ट होती हैं जिनपर गाज़ा, वेस्ट बैंक से आने जाने वाले लोग और गाड़ियां बारीकी से चेक की जाती हैं ताकि उनकी आवाजाही पर रोक लगाई जा सके और उन्हें कंट्रोल किया जा सके।
9. Refugee Right of Return:
It refers to the demand of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to return to their ancestral homes or receive compensation for properties lost after the Zionist takeover of Palestine.
यह फिलीस्तीनी उम्मत की मांग है कि उन्हें यहूदी-ज़ायोनिस्त द्वारा कब्ज़ा किए उनके बाप-दादा के घरों पर उन्हें लौटने का या फिर मुआवाज़े का हक है। इस्राइल इस मांग को नहीं मानता।
10. UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees):
A UN agency established to provide assistance and protection to Palestinian refugees in various host countries.
यह उनाइटेड नेशन द्वारा बनाई गई एक कमिटी है जिसका काम फिलीस्तीनी लोगों की मदद करना है। यह कई बार फिलीस्तीनी लोगों को दूसरे देश में बसाने का भी काम करते हैं।
11. BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions):
A Palestinian-led campaign advocating for boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against Israel as a means to pressure the government to change its policies toward Palestinians.
BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) यह फिलीस्तीनी उम्मत की तरफ से चलाया जाने वाला एक आंदोलन है जिसका मकसद इसराइल को सपोर्ट करने वाली कंपनियों और प्रोडक्टस का बॉयकोट करना है और सरकारों पर दबाव बनाकर इस्राइल सरकार की नीतियों में खलल पैदा करना है।
12. One-State Solution:
This idea proposes a single, binational state in which Israelis and Palestinians would live together with equal rights.
यह एक आइडिया है जिसे कई देशों ने आगे किया है ताकि इस्राइल-फिलीस्तीन टकराव को खत्म किया जा सके। इस आइडिया में इस्राइल और फिलीस्तीन के नागरिकों को एक ही देश में समानता के साथ रहने की बात कही गई है।
13. Two-State Solution:
A proposed resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, calling for the establishment of separate, independent states for Israelis and Palestinians living side by side.
यह एक आइडिया है जिसे कई देशों ने आगे किया है जिसमें इस्राइल और फिलीस्तीन यह दो अलग अलग देश बनाए जाएं ऐसा कहा गया है।
14. War Crime:
Any act that violates the laws and customs of war, including targeting civilians, using banned weapons, and deliberate destruction of infrastructure and health services. Israel has been committing war crimes in Palestine for the last 75 years. This drastically increased after it declared war against Palestine on Oct 7, 2023.
युद्ध अपराध – जंग के नियमों और रीति-रिवाजों का उल्लंघन करने वाला कोई भी काम, जिसमें नागरिकों को निशाना बनाना, प्रतिबंधित (केमिकल या बायोलॉजीकल) हथियारों का इस्तेमाल और बिल्डिंग्स या स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं का जानबूझकर तबाह करना शामिल है। इस्रायल यह बरसों से कर रहा है लेकिन हाल में यह हद से ज़्यादा हो गया है। 07-अक्टूबर 2023 को इस्राइल ने फ़लस्तीन से जंग का ऐलान किया है।
15. Carpet Bombing:
Carpet bombing is a type of aerial bombing that involves dropping large numbers of bombs over a large area. The goal of carpet bombing is to destroy everything in the target area, including buildings, infrastructure, and people.
कार्पेट बमबारी एक तरह की हवाई बमबारी है जिसमें बड़े इलाके में बड़ी संख्या में बम गिराए जाते हैं। कार्पेट बमबारी का मकसद टारगेट एरिया में सब कुछ तबाह करना है, जिसमें इमारतें, बुनियादी ढांचा और इंसान भी शामिल हैं। इस्राइल हाल में यही कर रहा है।
16. Human Shields:
The use of civilians, voluntarily or involuntarily, to shield military targets from attack, which is considered a war crime. Israel has been found using palestanian prisoners and children as human shield in many agressions.
मानव ढाल का अर्थ है सैन्य ठिकानों को हमले से बचाने के लिए नागरिकों का उपयोग करना, जिसे युद्ध अपराध माना जाता है। इसराएल कई दफ़ा फ़लस्तीनी बच्चों और बंधकों को ऐसे इस्तेमाल करता हुआ पाया गया है।
17. Ceasefire:
A temporary halt in war, typically negotiated by parties in conflict to allow for humanitarian aid, negotiations, or a cooling-off period.
सीज़फायर का मतलब है की जंग को कुछ देर के लिए रोक देना। इसका अहम मकसद आम लोगों तक मदद पहुंचाना है। ये दो देशों के बीच में जंग खत्म करने का ज़रिया भी है।
18. Intifada:
Uprisings or protests by Palestinians against Israeli occupation, often marked by civil disobedience, demonstrations, and, at times, violence.
इस्राइली ज़ुल्म के खिलाफ बग़ावत में प्रोटेस्ट करना।। इसमें भीड़ इकट्ठा कर ज़ालिम हुकूमत के खिलाफ हिंसक दंगे करना भी शामिल है। (पहला इंतीफ़ादा 1987 में हुआ था जिसमें 1300 फ़लस्तीनियों को इसराएल ने शहीद कर दिया था)
19. Iron Dome:
An Israeli missile defence system designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells.
यह एक इसराएली एयर डिफेन्स सिस्टम है जिसका काम शॉर्ट-रेंज मिसाइल्स को तलाशना और हवा ही में तबाह कर देना है।
20. Hamas:
A Palestinian political and military organization that controls the Gaza Strip.. It has been declared a terrorist group by some countries. It was founded by Sheikh Ahmed Ismail Hassan Yassin (A Politician and Islamic Scholar)
हमास ये एक राजनीतिक पार्टी और मिलिटरी फोर्स है जो गाज़ा स्ट्रिप में सरकार में है। इसे कई देशों ने आतंकवादी संघठन करार दिया है। इस पार्टी को एक पालिटिशन और इमाम शेख अहमद इस्माइल हसन यासीन ने कायम किया।
21. PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization):
A political and military organization representing Palestinians, recognized by many nations, including the UN.
यह भी फ़लस्तीन की एक राजनीतिक और मिलिटरी फोर्स है जो फ़लस्तीन की आजादी की मांग करती है। इसे कई देशों ने और UN ने लीगल पार्टी माना है।
Conclusion:
These common terms associated with Palestine have been in circulation for the last few weeks. Brothers/Sisters, this is not the time to sit helpless and despair, instead we have a greater responsibility towards our brothers/sisters in Falasteen — First and foremost is Dua and second to do whatever we can.
Don’t stop talking about Falasteen. Don’t stop spreading awareness about Falasteen.
